We've gotten in a new batch of imacs. All of our Casper servers, etc, were set up by someone who is no longer at our company. Our image worked fine except wit these new machines. We needed a new netboot image for the newer system. Done. New config for the new machines, done. Netboot and launch casper imaging, not done. They will netboot, however, the casper imaging program will not launch. Click on it, no response. Previously it launched automatically. So obviously, there's something not right. And the issue is limited to the imacs. Using a previously imaged machine, and reimaging it works fine.

What am I missing?

I saw this recently too.

Attach a apple keyboard then try.

When it netboots, it finds the new image we have created, but what opens is the NetInstall LaunchPad. In the past, it went directly to the Image Utility. I can live with clicking a button, at least for now, but the button doesn't launch the Casper Imaging. Clicking on apple-C doesn't work either. I have a splash screen of the casper suite logo, and the window for the Launchpad. There is no dock, there is no app folder.

Sorry but I just assumed you were using a standard netboot with casper imaging loading at startup.

Because that's what we do! & we had a similar issue when netbooting the latest released imacs with no kb attached after holding n to netboot.

When you created the new NetBoot image, did you do that on the new machines?

My experience has been that with new hardware you have to do everything on
the new hardware. You cannot Target Disc onto an older piece to snapshot or
create the NBI.

Hey Melinda,

I assume you've already imported these new iMacs into the database? Under
Autorun, is 'Automatically Image this Computer the next time Casper Imaging
is launched' checked for these machines?

Hi Melinda,

Try this link, I've used it in the past when setting up casper imaging to run automatically.

http://jamfsoftware.com/kb/article.php?id=236

If you don't want to be prompted for what image to use, you'll need to fill in the autorun fields for the computers in the inventory tab of the jss, or fill in the prestage so the image is auto selected.

Hope this helps,

Lisa.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. Dusty was right, of course, being support for JAMF. Earlier in the week we upgraded the Casper server, being far late in doing so. The imaging client was not put correctly in place. In addition, I had one too many checkboxes checked somewhere. We managed to get it up and running with the help of Eric at JAMF, in time to leave at a normal hour on Friday and no weekend work. Thanks again everyone for the help!
