What’s New

We are excited to announce the next step in helping admins configure their user’s experience in Self Service+.  With this extended beta release, admins will be able to configure the order of items in the left navigation bar, the presence of sections on the home page, and the appearance of the Self Service+ menubar item. With this first phase of the release, these three options above are configurable by configuration profile using the schema included in the release notes.

In addition to this change, we are also currently working on a blueprints implementation within Jamf Pro to make changing these settings even easier.  As we work through your feedback on these changes, we also want to be bringing even more customizations to help you bring a more tailored experience to your users. If you have any ideas for Self Service+ experiences that you would like to configure, we ask that you also share your ideas for us to consider as we prioritize next steps for customization.

What we're asking from you:

Excited to see this extended beta! Customization has been a big ask, and it’s great to see more flexibility coming to Self Service.

Good to see this David! I want to test this out, but I’m having difficulty to do so. I don’t see the preference domain name on the documentation page, is it com.jamf.selfserviceplus?

Same as Tim. I cannot get that xml to work. It would also be very helpful if there was a JSON schema that we could use to select what options we want to enable/disable, rather than having a giant plist to sort through.

@Jared_Y Thanks for that great feedback, we will work on getting a simple schema to share out with this release.

Thanks @david_engum , that ID works for the plist. Good to see it’s added to the page as explanation.

Some things I experience (but maybe I’m holding it wrong)

  1. Not sure what the “Protected” keys do. Tried setting some to true or false, but not seeing differences.
  2. Can’t seem to change the icons like <string>person.circle</string> to <string>person</string>. Not an issue (default icons are nice enough), but tested for fun.
  3. I can change the order (setting Home to the bottom for instance). Would like to be able to hide certain items (Updates for instance, we don’t use Jamf App Catalog, so this can be confusing if it’s (always) empty. Also when not using Protect or Connect, Home is just a banner.
  4. The “first” and “last” keys under tabsOrder: I don’t think we can adjust anything with these right? To avoid confusion, maybe have the ability to remove them from the profile? (tried to remove them, but that made the plist not work anymore)
  5. Our users are in Self Service for installing software. I would like to have the default page to be catalog, I don’t think we can do that now right?

This is definitely a good step in the right direction. The ability to hide the Account Management page from Home is essential for us, and this means we can finally transition from SS to SSP when the this comes in the non-beta/regular SSP.

@Tim
Thank you for the feedback. We will clarify the schema for go live to make it clearer for use. Additionally, I have noted 3-5 for consideration in the next round of customization features.
