Hi all. AirDrop is enabled for use between our shared iPads. However, when transferring files, the iPads emit a beep, but no notification appears to accept the transfer. Do you have any insights into what might be causing this issue? The devices are running iPadOS 18.3.1.Thanks in advance for your help!

The users will need to have Bluetooth and wi-fi enabled.
The 'Everyone for 10 minutes' option on the iPad under Settings > General > Airdrop needs to be selected.
Do you have any Jamf Profiles that are turning off Notifications?
I'll see if i can come up with any other items to look at.

I already checked them, and everything seems to be fine, but it still doesn’t work. I also couldn’t find any option for turnning off notifications in the profiles, and the 'Notifications' section is not configured.
Before applying the profiles, for example when the device is just turned on and still disconnected from the internet, AirDrop works. However, after connecting to the internet, the same problem occurs.
+5This was actually a behaviour in one of the first iOS 18 versions in combination with a configured app safelist, if I remember correctly. It was fixed with one of the following iOS versions and it didn't occure to me again. Are you absolutely sure, that alle iPads are on iOS 18.3.1? Otherwise try deactivating the safelist and give it another try.

I just ran across a post that mentioned that firewall setting can block airdrop as well. The post stated "Allowing TCP 8770 through it's firewall allowed AirDrop to start working." Granted this was on a Mac, but I was wondering if your internet filtering might be causing the issue. Since you said it breaks once you connect to the internet.
Just another thought. I'm not a network guy, so I don't quite understand all of that side of the equation.

Thank you, Greg. I just checked the post, but it doesn’t apply to our case since even non-managed devices connected to our internet can AirDrop without any issues.

Yes, I’m sure the iPads are on iOS 18.3.1. I deactivated both the Safelist and Blocklist, but the issue persists.

In Jamf School, there is no "App Usage" option. Under the profile restrictions, in the ''Media Content'' tab, there's an ''Apps' section which is set to ''Allow All Apps'', but the issue still persists.
+4I think this is a Jamf School issue. I escalated this to Jamf School support. Maybe you should too. More complaints often works best. I think it has to do with BundleID "com.apple.Sharing.AirDropUI" not being added to the Safe App List that is installed (automatically) on the Shared iPad.

Jamf is already aware of this issue and is working on it.
