@iVoidWarrantiez I can't say why you're hitting that error, but I can recommend you look at enabling http (preferably https) content delivery from your DP. It should provide much better download performance since you're eliminating the overhead of mounting/unmounting the file system.

i never got deep into solving this because i have 3 https servers spun up, but you need to create a whitelist / pppc profile for samba or mounted drives if im not mistaken and something else, I can't find the post but somebody on here had a great deal of knowledge on solving your problem.

i 2nd sdagley, move to HTTPs it will make your deployments much smoother

Switched to HTTPS.

We discovered that Catalina has NetBios disabled by default. We found this article on how to enable it on Apple StackExchange

@theraven Worth looking into. I switched to https downloads but I wouldn't mind finding the hangup with SMB. I am not sure if this is the issues because in the logs I can see the SMB share did mount but the copy operation was not allowed.

@iVoidWarrantiez Agreed. The issue is random in my environment. Some Catalina machines receive the updates just fine while others get the Operation Not Permitted error. Same exact MacBooks and same system builds.

I'm seeing this randomly as well on our Catalina systems. I have been pushing to move to HTTP/HTTPS since I started in my new position several months ago. Mounting SMB shares to copy files down is a clumsy and archaic way of doing things. I can't wait until we switch out to HTTP/S for the share. I know it can have its own share of issues, but it generally works much smoother from my experience in other places using Jamf Pro.

I just had a look at the attached guide. What a horrific process that looks to be. You either need to fully configure Apache or IIS. BLEH.
