Can't install Mac Apps from App Store

I’m trying to deploy a Mac App that was purchased through Apple School Manager VPP.

When I go to Computers → Mac Apps → App Store and add the app from the App Store, I can find the app and click Add, but the page spins and never moves past for me to actually finish adding the app to my tenant.

I’ve checked the VPP token and ensured everything is connected properly. This is not an issue when working in the Devices, only when adding apps from the app store for computers.

Hi @GaggleSE,

Since this only happens with Computers and not Devices, it's unlikely to be a VPP token issue.

Could you try the following:

  1. Clear your browser cache or try incognito mode / a different browser
  2. Check if other admins in your Jamf Pro instance experience the same issue

If the problem persists, I'd recommend opening a Jamf Support ticket — they can investigate your specific tenant for any backend issues.

I attempted on a different device using Safari and run into the same issue. I’ll open a support ticket with Jamf and have them look into it.

Was this by any chance over the past couple of days?  Apple School Manager was having some issues.  It appears to have cleared up, but we couldn’t do any builds on macOS computers while it was acting up.  For one thing, things were erroring out at the “Activate Mac” screen.  Trying to get a unit’s detail record resulted in an error message for macOS devices.  Everything else worked.

@thebrucecarter - yup. I was having the issue when I posted this. From further investigation, I’m wondering if this could be related to listed vs. unlisted apps. I tried with Word/Office 365 and didn’t have a problem but was unable to get the unlisted app to move through the Add Mac App store app process.
