Does anyone have any suggestions on how we can disable the "add to homescreen" feature in Chrome? Many students are adding games to their homescreen.

I have not identified any specific restrictions regarding the “add to home screen” functionality.

The only way I know to stop it, is to have a Home Screen profile. When you configure which apps are allowed, nothing else is displayed. Its not practical though.

You can’t fully disable “Add to Home Screen” in Chrome itself. Apple controls that behavior through Safari WebView, not Chrome itself. Already mentioned in official AppStore: https://chromeenterprise.google/policies/

Therefore, it’s basically an iOS limitation, not a Chrome setting — so management has to happen through Jamf or filters, not the browser.

  • 1st: Use Web Clips instead of letting students add their own — that way, only approved shortcuts appear.
  • 2nd: Restrict Chrome usage with a configuration profile or lock down access using App Restrictions.
  • 3rd: Block gaming URLs at the network or content-filter level so even if added, they won’t load.
