I'm not looking to modify it, I just want to query whether it's enabled or not on a machine. I can't seem to find any documentation or posts that aren't about failing to manage location services. Is there an easy way to query the status of location services, e.g., with a shell script?

You can create an Extension Attribute that indicates if Location Services is Enabled or Disabled.
