We are getting this error on only one computer when inventory update occurs. Message does not mean much, nothing in the associated logs on the server matches the error message.

JSS 9.65
Computer running OS 10.10.2

'"Gathering application usage information...
Error running recon: Invalid Message - The message could not be parsed."

Just to add to this list. I was having the same problem on the one Mac that I use to Configurator on to setup all of our iPads. I disabled

Collect last backup date/time for managed mobile devices that are synced to computers

in the Management Settings --> Inventory Collection and the problem was resolved.

I had the same solution as @mdfoster Uncheck "Collect last backup date/time for managed mobile devices that are synced to computers" in Management Settings --> Inventory Collection

+1 for the Fix of turning off "Collect last backup date/time for managed mobile devices that are synced to computers"

Another +1 for turning off "collect last backup date/time for managed mobile devices."

@mdfoster +1 for the solution below.
Thanks. mdfoster Thumbs up.

Another +1 for "this computer was using configurator to setup iPads" and disabling "Collect last backup date/time for managed mobile devices that are synced to computers" in inventory collection solved the problem. Yeesh! That was a headache. I have unenrolled and re-enrolled this specific machine at least half a dozen times.
