So as of recently, our iPad 5th Gens are not able to enroll after factory reset to 16.7.12. We’ve had to do factory resets on iPads that are out of space. Our 6th and higher version iPad’s (17.7.10 / 18.7.1) appear to fine at the moment. Jamf Pro still claims to be supporting iPadOS 16, where JamfNow supports a minimum of 17.x. Has documentation not been updated regarding iPadOS 16?
Not sure where to go at this point as we have a plethora of 5th Gen iPads still in our school environment.

+1Well we’re not using Jamf School, so that’s not relevant to the thread. We would prefer to have engineer confirmation that the MDM is still supporting this model of iPad. We have teachers pressing us for a resolution. Till then, we are still stuck with ‘Network Error’ messages.

+15It should be relevant if using Automated Enrolment. If for no other reason than it’s not an inherent Apple issue. If you want Jamf engineer feedback I’d encourage you to submit a ticket for the issue. Maybe you already have. If I get a chance I’ll test a 5th gen in my Jamf Pro Sandbox just to see if I have the issue there.

If you want a Jamf Engineer to confirm anything you need to open a ticket. Jamf supports OS versions, not necessarily hardware models. the iPad 5th gen runs iPadOS 16, which is technically the minimum requirement for Jamf per their documentation.
Being an Engineer myself, I do not allow any iPad models in the environment if they did not support iPadOS 26 (or whatever the current OS version is at the given time). When you are dealing with N-1 things are usually okay aside of missing security patches and some newer MDM options, when you are dealing with N-2 and N-3 not only are there more security concerns, but you are going to run in to a lot of compatibility issues.

+1It’s not my choice to remove devices that don’t support iOS 26. There are too many changes in it that confuse our userbase and we don’t time to educate them on the differences. This is why we still use up to 18.x in our environment and won’t push 26 until we have had time to check application compatibility.
Don’t push the System Requirements link. We are well aware of it. Personally, I’m not a fan of Open Source MDM’s, because I know too many bugs come out of the woodwork when you least expect them. Jamf is also known to blame Apple for things on far too many occasions.
