iPad word processor for exams – disabling spelling/grammar assistance and saving completed work

I'm initially looking for advice on whether there is a suitable word-processing app for iPadOS that we could deploy and manage through Jamf School.

We currently use Everway ExamWritePad on our Windows devices for pupils who need to type their answers in exams. I was exploring the possibility of using iPads for the same purpose, but I'm struggling to find a suitable equivalent.

We would need:

  • A basic word processor for typing exam answers.

  • No spelling assistance, autocorrect, predictive text, grammar checking or punctuation assistance.

  • The ability to save the completed document to a network folder, ideally the pupil's own network drive.

  • Alternatively, if using a shared network location, pupils must not be able to access other pupils' files.

  • Another option would be a way to submit or export the completed document securely at the end of the exam.

We would ideally like to use Jamf School to lock the iPads down so that pupils can only access the approved application during the exam.

Our current Windows process involves using USB sticks to save completed work, or alternatively printing the documents, neither of which is particularly convenient.

Has anyone implemented something similar with iPads? I'm particularly interested in recommendations for suitable apps, ways of completely disabling writing assistance, and solutions for saving or submitting documents securely without giving pupils access to other files.

Thanks

We use Google Doc and/or Pages. You can also control or block spell check within a profile under restrictions section for the kids. that is what we do. If you have google workspace for schools I do believe you can customize that feature as well. Hop that helps

As far as locking stuff down JAMF TEACHER & JAMF STUDENT does a great job at this. You can customize that feature to lock down most things except what you need. You can allow only the websites and apps the teacher uses in that class. Our teachers like to also use apple classroom (this allows the teacher to see whats the kid is doing on the ipad) JAMF TEACHER has a hand raise option and other features as well.
