Question

Is there an Activation in my Jamf Cloud that has to be enabled to use ABM Device Migration?

I’m looking to add an additional MDM solution to our devices in Apple Business Manager.  With the release of OS26 (Tahoe) it appears now that devices enrolled in Apple Business Manager can use ABM Migration to change the Assigned MDM server “on the fly” without having to re-enroll the device.  I’m testing this, but it doesn’t appear to be doing anything with the device I’ve moved to a different MDM server.  A quick check seems to indicate that this feature MIGHT need to be enabled in our Jamf Pro account.   Has anyone else had this issue or know how to do this?

There’s nothing to enable in Jamf Pro; everything is done through Apple Business Manager. Here’s a link to the documentation for MDM Migration. You’ll want to note the requirements below for migrating MDMs and ensure that you meet them.

Requirements

To migrate from one device management service to another, your devices need to meet the following requirements. If they don’t meet the requirements, they’re unable to show the deadline option, and bulk actions result in failures (which appear in the activity log).

  • Devices with iOS 26, iPadOS 26, or macOS 26.

  • You need to own the device and enroll it with Automated Device Enrollment. Additionally, macOS 26 supports migration for Mac computers that unenroll and reenroll with profile-based enrollment.

  • If you enroll the device manually using Apple Configurator, it needs to be after the 30-day provisional period.

  • Migrating to and from the device management service within Apple Business Essentials isn’t currently supported.

Note: Device management service migration isn’t available on Shared iPad.

Thanks MusicCityMac.  It’s odd, because I determined that the issue being I can’t assign a deadline to the migration (which according to the docks, means the device is not supported for MDM migration).  Not quite sure why; it’s on Tahoe, was automatically enrolled in Device magement through Apple ABM (which purchased the device from our corporate apple store).  All device auto-enroll in Jamf Pro when purchased in this manner just fine.

Wish I knew a way to determine exacly why a device isn’t “supported” when it meets all the documentation requirements.

What MDM is your device in, and what MDM are you migrating it to?
