Question

Is there anyway to remove the Self service icon from the menu bar?

So as we approach the inevitable coming of Self Service + we have noticed something that would be great to remove if possible to bypass some potential issues.

In the Mac menu bar the Self Service + icon does not go away no matter what at the moment, and it also has a “Get software” option in the menu that does not apply to us.

So I have the following questions:

1: Is there a way to automatically hide or disable the icon from showing up?

or

2: Is there a way to customize what menu options the icon has so that it is more applicable to different use cases where optional software deployed through self service is not a thing?

I’m interested in this answer as well.

I presume you don’t use Jamf Connect? As Self Service+ replaces Jamf Connect Menu Bar app, I presume you could edit those options adding that config profile on your devices.. That should allow you to edit the “Get Software” to something else and point it to whatever you need.

@Art88 We do not use Jamf Connect. Are you suggesting to edit the Connect config profile or is there a config profile for Self Service + that gets automatically added when Self Service + is enabled?

There is a Jamf Connect Menu bar configuration profile that can mange the name of those menu items, which I presume you could deploy even without using Jamf Connect. If not the best bet is to contact Jamf Support to see if there’s a different domain or way to do it, but definitely I would say that menu bar is the Jamf Connect one embedded by default in SS+

I’ll test it out. Thanks for the suggestion!

Currently, there is no native way to customize or hide the Self Service+ menu bar icon and its menu options.

If you need to hide the menu bar icon, you can consider using third-party tools such as Bartender or Hidden Bar to manage icons in the menu bar.

A Feature Request has been submitted to Jamf Ideas for this functionality: https://ideas.jamf.com/ideas/USER-I-144

I encourage you to vote for this request so the Jamf development team is aware of customer demand for this feature.

I held down the Command key on keyboard, and dragged off the icon from the Menu Bar.

Be curious if there was a scalable option...

There are at least 4 requests to disable the menu bar for many many months, I am not sure if jamf will ever listen.
