We´re using jamf school and have both Ipad och Macbook Air users. Jamf parent works with Ipads.

When we tried to pair with Macbooks it didnt work.

When we try to pair with QR code we get pairing error from Jamf parent app.

When we tried to choose iPad the pairing first worked but in the next step “the device cannot be found”

Anyone have experience linking Jamf parent till Macbooks?

Macs don't pair through the iPad flow — in Jamf School, Mac management with Jamf Parent is a separate setup with its own app. The setup in the Jamf Parent Configuration Guide is:

1. In Jamf Student Mac Configurator, configure the school schedule and generate the configuration profiles.

2. Upload and scope those configuration profiles in Jamf School.

3. Upload and scope the Jamf Student Mac installer package in Jamf School. Jamf Student Mac is a separate application from Jamf School Student — it is downloaded from Jamf Account as an installer package and cannot be deployed using volume purchasing.

4. On the Mac, open Jamf Student Mac, and have the parent scan the QR code shown there with Jamf Parent to add the computer.

Adding the Mac as an iPad in Jamf Parent gets past the first step and then fails with the device not found, which matches what you are seeing — the QR code has to come from Jamf Student Mac on the computer itself.

One caveat: parents on Android cannot manage student computers yet — Jamf's Jamf School documentation lists that as a future release, so the parent needs the iOS Jamf Parent app for a Mac.
