We had touch fail on an iPad so we purchased a replacement. The original iPad is for a special education student and has a lot of specialized and customized apps on it. Is there any way in Jamf that we can transfer the apps and their configurations over to the replacement iPad? Thank you

@swaldow If the apps were purchased through Apple School Manager and deployed through Jamf, you can transfer the licenses from one iPad to another. Unscope the old iPad and scope the new one.

@ktrojano Thank you for the quick response! How do I unscope one and scope the other? Will this transfer the app customizations?

Just scope the new iPad to all of the same stuff the old one was scoped to.  Better yet, create a group for that device and scope the group - that way any time you need to replace it, all you have to do is drop the device into that group.

@swaldow In my experience most of the app customizations need to be backed up somehow. I know Proloquo2Go (PLQ) backs up to iCloud. When I transfer I license I go into PLQ verify a recent backup was done. Then I go into the app catalog and change the scope. Do you use Jamf Pro or School?

@ktrojano Normally we do it that way but the issue we’re running into with this iPad is that touch no longer works so we can’t get into the apps to run backups/exports.

@swaldow  If the apps were setup to automatically backup then the customizations should transfer over, if not you may lose them. I know some apps allow you to connect them to a computer and back them up. You may be able to do that without needing to touch the iPad.

@ktrojano We also found that we can use a USB-C mouse with it so we should be good to go with the backups.
