One interesting feature I saw in the Google tool Munki/Simian (http://google-opensource.blogspot.com/2011/01/simian-mac-os-x-package-deployment-via.html) is that you can push patches to Macs even when they're off the corporate network.

Is this possible with CasperSuite?

Yes, either over VPN, or with an external JSS instance (https://jamfnation.jamfsoftware.com/article.html?id=174) and a 1.1.1.1 to 255.255.255.255 network segment).

Yes, its further possible, but you need to be able to have a public facing JSS, and a public facing deploy point (or update server if your just concerned with apple updates)
