Some computers has lost configuration profiles

Over the summer some of our computers has lost our Wi-Fi profile. I wonder what’s the best solution to get it back. For the moment they are using our guest Wi-Fi. But it’s very limited for the users so we need to get the profile back.

I’ve created a smart computer group that show all the computers that don’t have the profile. Should I put the group in the scope? Won’t the loose the profile again when they’re not in the smart group anymore?

So a few questions - what kind of wifi are you using? Password, 802.1x, or some other method?

If the latter for your RADIUS, did you reissue certificates or possibly renew your issuing certificates?  What is your RADIUS server and who is your CA?  Are you using ADCS or some other method for certificate issuance?

​@jonros how did your devices get that profile to start? I have mine setup to apply to all devices and have an exclusion setup targeting a specific static group. That allows me the ability to place devices in that static group and remove the profile from it without having to go in and modify the scope a bunch of times.

We’ve ran into issues in the past where someone would go to exclude a particular device from the profile but then selected the wrong option when they went to save the changes. For example, if you select “Distribute to All” you are basically removing that profile from all devices and then reapplying it. If you select “Distribute to Newly Assigned Devices Only” then it will only make the change to whatever devices you included/excluded in the scope.

We had someone select “Distribute to All” when they made the change basically removing the wireless profile from all devices that were online at the time. Then, they couldn’t get the profile reapplied until they connected to the network via Guest Wireless or hardwired connection. 

For your situation, I would apply it to all computers unless you have a need to only apply it to certain devices, then, I’d scope it to a smart group that is setup to capture all the devices needed.
