Hi everyone, I used to be able to have options for "User and Location" under "Mobile Device Names" but it's gone.

Thoughts?

You have Require Authentication selected, the "User and Location field is removed as the user is authenticated and assigned on enrollment.

Hi @mradams ,

Thanks for the advice. Yes, it does clear my doubt.
But, another question pop up, how the user of iPad going to enter their username or how does JSS going to recognise which user is using the iPad if turn off the option?

Good Morning @Reon.

The way we have our system configured is we use LDAP authentication. When not using user authentication, the assignment is done using the JSS. Locate the device, go to the Inventory tab, User and Location. Select Edit and add the username clicking on the Search icon. Once you select the user the remaining information is populated by pulling from LDAP.

Another method for user-initated enrollment is I created a user account for enrollment only, My engineers then can go to https://your.jss.url/enroll when prompted to sign in they use the enrollment account and then are prompted to input the users username.

With over 7000 iOS devices and limited staff we have converted 90% of our iPads to DEP enrollment, enroll using Apple Configurator 2, and then assign to our staff using the JSS. We only use the manual method for devices that have lost communication with the JSS.

So to answer your question, it depends which method of enrollment to you plan on using. If user-initiated you will need to leave the feature enabled, if using Configurator 2 then remove the option and assign using the JSS.

hello @mradams ,

any idea how does this assign to user function work?

I can't find any user from my user list and can't assign any user to the device

Are you using an LDAP server to pull your users? If not you may have to manually add your users first.
