VPP Assigned Apps asking for Apple Account sign in whenever opened

I am suddenly having an issue with JAMF deployed apps. I’m only seeing the issue happening on 3 apps that are paid for. The apps deploy properly to the iPads but are now prompting the user to sign in to an Apple Account whenever the app is opened on the iPad. If they hit cancel it allows them to use the app but when they close out of it again, it will prompt the sign in again.

Our VPP token in JAMF is not expired, the location is correct, Managed distribution for the app hasn’t changed since it previously been setup and working and we have enough licenses and this issue only suddenly started happening. I’m not seeing it on the free apps.

Any feedback or direction would be great, thanks!

@MarveHarri Is it happening for all of your paid apps or just some? Which apps?

@ktrojano It is not happening on all of our paid apps, just a handful of them. One of them being Proloquo2Go

@MarveHarri we have over 100 PLQ licenses assigned and I haven’t heard reports of this happening in our environment. However, we sign all of our iPads using PLQ into the student’s Apple Account when we set them up. Since PLQ backs up to the cloud this ensures we have a recent backup when we need to replace the iPad due to breakage. If you sign the iPad into an Apple Account and open PLQ does the message still come up?

@ktrojano  as a test on my test device I tried with my Apple Account and it doesn’t seem to prompting again, however we don’t have managed Apple Accounts set up for our users for us to provide them to sign in with or to advise using a personal one as they may not have one.

@MarveHarri have you tried reaching out to AssistiveWare? I don’t have an iPad in front of me with PLQ, but in settings can you disable the iCloud backup?

@ktrojano iCloud backup is not enabled. I didn’t try reaching out to AssistiveWare only because it is happening on other applications not by AssistiveWare. I just tried renewing our VPP token as well just to see if there was some sort of sync issue happening and I am still having the same issue.

I don’t see where iCloud is an option. I see Dropbox and Google Drive.

@Chris_Cover The iCloud option is under the Apple Account option once you’ve signed into an Apple Account on the iPad. It used to be within Proloquo but has moved.

@MarveHarri I setup a new iPad, pushed Proloquo to the iPad and launched it. I was prompted to sign into an Apple Account. I signed in and the prompt went away. I’ve opened a ticket with AssistiveWare. I’ll post here when I hear back from them.

Hi,

I opened a case with assistive ware and they were pointing to the VPP token. However; the information you gave about the the iCloud portion being in the app that would suggest their change may be involved.

Can anyone confirm that the app refuses to install as a auto-install but does install as a self-service item (with the purchase prompt before install)?

@Chris_Cover We have the app set to auto-install which it did without any issues on the iPad I just setup to test with. We aren’t getting a purchase prompts.

Support told me they are seeing this issue with MDM managed iPads. They asked me to verify that the iPad is on the latest version of PLQ and iPad OS which I did. They are looking into it.

@MarveHarri since you are seeing this issue with other apps not by AssistiveWear, I’m thinking this may be an iOS issue rather than an issue with the app.

No not yet other than to have the iPad logged in with an Apple ID.

I had this once but manually reinstalled from iPad self service fixed it.

@MarveHarri & @Chris_Cover I received this today in response to my ticket with AssitiveWear.

With additional information from Apple, we have isolated the issue and it will be resolved in the next Proloquo2Go update. Unfortunately there is quite a backlog of work for our development team and the update is unlikely to be ready until April.

@ktrojano

Yes. I received that this morning. I’m guessing the other apps doing this will require the same fix.
