When Apple devices began appearing in your org what did you do? Was there an immediate reach for device management? Were conversations held? Were various teams corralled together to lay the groundwork?

How did your org handle the various Apple requirements stretching across:

Endpoint Engineering
Network Engineering
Security Engineering
IAM
PKI
SOC
Architecture
Service Desk
Procurement
Change Management
Vendor Management

Before, during, or after implementing Apple device management.

I want to hear your stories, please.

It was the end of the1980’s. I dont think the people who invented device management had been born yet. Everything was stand alone. Then later as better ways came along we adopted them, always for the majority Windows based devices first, then the second class Apple devices later. To be fair the numbers were low and managing them was not an issue. But as the numbers increased we looked for and found management solutions for them. Been with Casper/Jamf since Casper 5.
All the rest of our infrastructure evolved for the Windows devices and the Apples were added in. It did take a long time to get them to think of the Apple devices when looking at new systems, rather than getting something and making it work.
Don’t know if this is what you are looking for, here it has simply been an evolution. Jamf was the best move we ever made.

I started a pilot program to introduce macOS devices, we wanted them managed right off the bat and went with Jamf. We started with 25 users and moved up to 50, then later did a developer roll-out before moving to the whole org. This was rather recent so we did want to modernize overall and switched to a ZTNA type model for networking. Worked with many departments to get everything configured but it’s been a huge proejct.

Aside from Jamf we needed to sort out directory services (already have, easy if you use Azure AD), DLP, and content filtering/secure tunnels to hit internal resources. Can use a VPN for this or something like a SASE depending on the model that makes sense with what you have or what you want to aspire to in the future.
