I’m looking for a good printer for home use and would like some advice. I mainly need it for printing documents, school work, and occasional color pages. My old printer has been slow and expensive to maintain, so I’m thinking of upgrading.
What printer would you recommend for reliable and cost-effective home use?

I’m a big fan of Brother laser printers and have used them for many years. They’re just rock-solid in my experience.

I have a Brother MFC-9840CDW that is well over a decade old and is still chugging along.  Probably won’t be able to get cartridges anymore before it actually breaks down...

I’m a big fan of Brother too. I have an HL-2170W black and white laser printer that I bought in 2009. 17 years later it still works perfectly. I don’t do a lot of printing so I have replaced the toner only 3 times.

I have one of those as well, and it ABSOLUTELY refuses to die. The bonus to using Brother devices is that they don’t chip their toner cartridges for X number of prints before the cartridge locks itself, saying “Out of Toner,” as several other companies do.
