We do not use a cloud distribution point for our Jamf pro instance (nor do we want to) We would like to be able to upload packages using the Jamf Pro console and not the clunky admin app. Why isn't this an option when having a https enabled File share distribution point?

Why can't you upload pkg to Jamf Pro with File share distribution point HTTPS enabled?

+25@BCPeteo File Share distribution points, even ones with https enabled, require an SMB connection to upload files to them. That's not possible via the Jamf Pro console.
