Hello I have an extension attribute which does a simply cat of a txt file. The problem is the txt file has carriage returns in it and I would like to include them because the recon inventory shows all the information bunched together and i need to be able to separate the data Can anyone help at all?

Hi guys, I'm trying to create a policy that prompts users with cached updates to restart.. on restarting they should see a full screen message like the below until all packages have been installed. However, if I run the below as a before script.. the screen displays but the policy halts waiting for the screen to be dismissed.. Where can I get the download to upgrade to Casper 8.3? I understand there is a newer version of Casper coming out very soon but I have 640 Macbook Airs to image immediately. I'm having some problems imaging the Lion Macbook Airs with my current version of Casper. I never received an email from my account rep to download. Binding to AD during the imaging process has always been iffy for me. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I can't figure out any rhyme or reason as to why this is happening. I want to be able to log into an AD account immediately after imaging. I have a first boot script that is run during the imaging process. The end of that script pauses for 2 minutes and reboots itself when complete. At one point I thought that might help the AD binding process finish. Do you guys have any ideas how I can fix this? I am trying to get the configuration profiles working to deploy 802.1x to lion machines. If i send the .mobileconfig file everything works great. That is of course not a good deployment strategy. My issue comes from importing that into the JSS. It does not import correctly. When I try to set it up manually, I cannot get it to recognize that I have a certificate added. It just says:Trusted Certificates Certificates trusted/expected for authenticationNo certificates available -- use 'Credentials' tab to add Has anyone gotten this to work?

Early in the Securing the JSS session a slide was shown that outlined the common ports to open in the firewall of an OS X box - and then a link to the KBase was also shown. Does anyone have the ability to share the content of that slide, or to provide the link to the port listing on Apple's Kbase?

Hi Mac Gurus, I need osacript help to rename the Macs. I am using Mr Larkin's cnamemethod to remembering Macs original names.But now, we may need to change the Mac names. Staff would prefer GUI to dothis. My Sharing prefs is greyed out with MCX.Only way to do this using script with jamf setComputerName or networksetup-setcomputername commands . So I have come up with a script. I am planning to run this with Selfservice - scope to IT Admins only. But I would like a pop up window forstaff to populate the new hostname as below states as MACNAME. We are testing migration of our Distribution Points that were previously hosted on Apple Xserves. The new Distribution Point shares are on NAS, which can only provide SMB sharing (no HTTP and no AFP). Are there any gotchas in moving away from HTTP/AFP and onto only SMB for Casper? So far no issues with our testing, including pushing out the CS5 whole enchilada suites, strictly over SMB. Wanted to make sure we covered all bases so we don't get ourselves into a corner...will we be losing any functionality in moving to SMB only? Thanks,Don

Hello all, I know it is Administrators' nightmare to give admin rights toUsers....but here we are dealing with adults and we attend to give adminrights to people, if there is a business justification for it. One of the engineers sent this command to a Mac (I believe via ARD).dscl . -append /Groups/admin GroupMembership username ...and now all accounts turn in to standard including hidden admin accountand Casper ssh account (these accounts are in /private/var). Also accountin /Users/username still a standard account too (that was the dscl commandmeant to target). Any ideas why did this happened? Or anyone has seen this before? We are using Casper v7.31 and client Mac has MacOS X 10.6.5 This concerns me because, I am planning to use this script (see firstscript below) through Casper Remote and it uses the same command (see thelast line of the first script) I have tweaked one of the Casper Resources Kit script, so Service Desk canuse it with ease by just selecting the Mac the

As you can gather from my previous questions, we're about to deploy a few more machines. Basically, I'll be taking a retail DMG, combo updating & then using a combination of various scripts to set things such as time server, timezone, binding to od group etc... The scripts i'm using all have the correct parameter labels, but for each configuration i wish to change some/all of the variables. (i.e one configuration will bind to one OD group, another.. another group etc..).. Rather than hardcode each script, I'd like to declare the variables at imaging. Now i know we can do this via casper remote or a policy, BUT how do you guys do this? Pre-stage isn't an option sadly. I was thinking i'd create a policy with all the scripts, duplicate it per each config & give each policy a manual trigger. That way i can change the variables through the jss web interface (making dynamic changes easy), & only have a one line script needed per configuration
