Question

1 to 1 program with two Mac OS Partitions.

Forum|alt.badge.img+1

Hi,

Is there any school using 1 to 1 program Laptops with 2 Mac OS partitions on
it? A suggestion has come up from students to have two partions, one for
school 1 to 1 applications (with no admin privileges to students ) and the
other partition with Admin privileges to students. Is there a model in use
anywhere that we can follow? We want to keep the BIOS lock with some sort of
boot loader to switch between two partitions. Any suggestions?

Vishu

Seems like that would be a tough job to pull off. If they have admin privileges on one partition, they can get unfettered access to the other without a great deal of effort.

Why do students need admin rights? I have been running a 1:1 for 4 years now and have never ran into a situation where I need to give students admin rights.

Indeed, this smells like a security risk to me.

In answer to your bootloader question, the only one I know of for EFI is called rEFIt <http://refit.sourceforge.net/>.

rEFIt is very handy...we use it here on dual-boot systems. But it won't
work in conjunction with EFI passwords, unfortunately.

FYI, you can do dual booting to non admin users via self service....

How do you account for the time server difference and windows thinking
it's counterfit?

I have a dualboot win7 on my Mac, and whenever I switch between the two
the time gets screwed up and Win7 complains it's counterfeit (unless I
re-activate)

I am not sure, you are referring to a Kerberos ticket? You can set
the Windows client to a NTP server.
