Question

File Server will not allow any additional users to log on

Forum|alt.badge.img+3

Has anyone come across this issue when starting up Casper Admin? When I launch it and entering admin credentials I get the error message "There was a problem connecting to the server. This file server will not allow any additional users to log on." After clicking OK I get the message "The master distribution point could not be mounted.

Most of the search results suggest upgrading to OS X server, which we already have, and editing com.apple.AppleFileServer max connections and max guests. I changed those to 1000 and still can't get in.

I haven't messed with this since 10.5 or so, but back then there was a 10 user limit for AFP connections. The Max Connections setting is ignored there. If my memory still works, that limit was only for AFP, as SMB connections didn't have that limit. So configure your mount point to use SMB and you shouldn't have that issue.... Again, that was years ago so I it's likely Apple has changed something... -t-

It sounds like something that would be resolved by restarting the AFP service, or at worst, the server.

What are you running as a server (OS version, server.app version etc)?

Thanks for the input. I've been working with our support rep the last couple days trying to get it figured out. Upgrading to the latest version of the server.app seems to be the cause.
