NetBoot problems

Ok here is the issue:

I have a new MacBook Pro with Lion but needs Snow Leopard instead of Lion because we are not ready to support 10.7 yet.

I was able to manually load Snow leopard onto this laptop with no problems.

I then got an image from composer of this machine with 10.6.8 so I can use it in Netinstall Creator 3.2 . I was able to get the image by running Composer on my MacBook Pro and using a firewire to capture the .dmg file. I then copied the .dmg image to the Mac Server running Casper.

for Netboot.

Then I moved it to its correct folder on the server so Netboot can use it.

When I go to Netboot into any laptop it gives me the circle with a slash in the middle. I did boot normally to the laptop that I wanted to image to s
ee if it sees the netboot image in the startup disk and it does see it.

Also the JAMF server is running Mac Server 10.6.8 (not Lion)

I did run a Command + V to see the netboot process in verbose mode and seen that it is stuck at "Still waiting for root device"

Not sure what that means, so where did I go wrong?

This may be where your problem lies. When creating the image, you need to

run Composer either from the same machine that you want to NetBoot, or from
the same model. So, if your MBP is not the same model as this MBP, the NBI
will most likely not work.

Instead, install the OS onto an external HD and boot the MBP off of that
external drive. While booted off of the external drive, use Composer to
capture the image of the internal HD on the MBP. Once you have that image,
then run NetInstall Creator from that same external HD running on that new
MBP. Copy the resulting folder up to your server and place it into the
NetBootSP0 folder (usually in /Library/NetBoot/NetBootSP0).

I find that 99% of the time I have problems with an NBI, it is because I did
not follow these steps. They key to this is that it all needs to be done on
the hardware you are trying to boot, especially if it is new hardware.
