Setting Mail App Default to Chrome Without Via Script

Hello,
I was wondering if it was possible to change the Mail App default to Chrome without having to open and set up a Mail App account. I have tried methods such as editing the plist but this does not seem to have any effect. I have seen this post on changing the default to Outlook but when I modify it to be Chrome it no longer works. Any suggestions?
