Hi,
We are experimenting with using a configuration profile to direct clients to our internal SUS server.
We are trying to scope to some 10.8 machines and they are completely unavailable in the results (i.e they do not appear) . It seems the only machines I can scope to are 10.9 . Is this payload compatible with 10.8? Configuration profiles should work from any machine 10.7 and up ?

As far as I've been able to test, SUS and FileVault settings in Config Profiles are 10.9+ only. I think there are also a few other new config profile settings that are 10.9+ only, but those are the major ones that we've run into.
Oddly enough though, this Apple KBase article doesn't specify an OS version for using config profiles for setting the SUS: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4069
My Mavericks Server Essentials book does seem to be the only Server Essentials book out of the 10.7, 10.8, and 10.9 batch that mentions using the config profile for setting the SUS.

Odd that they do not appear, how are you looking for them?
FWIW, MCX works to set the catalog too & the JSS should be able to set it.

Verify that the machines that are missing have the MDM profile installed. They will only show up for scoping if they do.
