We are using system image utility to create a net restore image from an OS X 10.12 Installer. We also have firmware passwords enabled on all of our computers. We would like to have the recovery partition visible and not hidden so when we option boot we can get in there. From what I can see system image utility is automatically hiding the recovery partition and all of the commands I have tried to make it visible do not work.

Is there a trick that I could be missing to effectively make the recovery partition visible when option booting?

Thanks!

Are you referring to the Apple-supplied recovery partition, or your own custom recovery partition?

While I don't know this for sure - since we don't use firmware passwords - it's possible that the recovery partition is only accessible using the Command-R key combination when the system boots. There is a certain logic to this - you are restricting access to firmware, after all.
