Whats The Diff Between This Script and The Checkbox Option

I took over in this position and I am just wondering what is the difference between this script jamf recon -endUsername $3

and simply checking the update name box?

I am assuming that you are referring to the Update Computer Name check box within a policy. This will update the computer name on the computer to what is set in the JSS should they be different.

The script appears to be setting the Username in the JSS to the current logged in user of the computer - This is found in User and Location in the computer's detailed information.
