The Jamf Nation User Conference is a special time for Apple IT folks. Some attendees are still recovering from the massive uptick in steps covered during the conference. Others are still buzzing over the Keynote and State of the Union announcements. And we Apple Admins got busy the following Monday implementing fresh Apples.
As for me, I walked away with 10 random thoughts floating around in my head. Between BBQ eats, pho dives, and caffeinated drinks, I even rented a car to extend my stay through the weekend with a car rental for city exploration.
Let’s jump into the list!
1️⃣ The JNUC experience gives everyone an excuse to explore new towns. Every city has its own DNA. I like to get to know a place through my stomach. So, which BBQ did I like best? I actually preferred Q39 over Joe’s KC BBQ. The meats were just better at Q39. The hour-long line at Joe’s didn’t thrill me. Though I loved the interior space. The meats were a tad dry and on the salty side. Am I going to get flak for this?
2️⃣ Declarative Device Management is taking over faster than expected. Maybe I didn’t compute this fast enough before, um, but we Apple Admins are moving away from legacy configuration profiles faster than I thought. Hello, Jamf and Blueprints! The party is yours … well, much sooner than I realized anyway.
3️⃣ Starting JNUC on a Wednesday. I do like that JNUC started on a Wednesday. When the conference ends on a Friday, it makes for a nice long weekend. Here’s a good way to force some PTO after racking up all those extra steps.
4️⃣ Jamf Device Checker for iOS is a hit. Easy to set up. Easy to use. The app deserves its own write-up. But let’s just say I think it’s a must-have app for your organization with iPhones and iPads. Device Checker’s simplicity gives you device health info, updates, and other connectivity observations effortlessly.
5️⃣ Did you know some crazy ones run a 5K before the Keynote? I didn’t. I mean, who wants to get up before sunrise for some extra sweat and steps? Well, plenty of Apple Admins, apparently! Count me in, too. And yes, I loved it. Recommend it. Had a nice conversation with a fellow runner. I’m down for another one next year. Just remember to set the alarm.
6️⃣ Looking forward to the addition of vitals and other health diagnostics in Self Service+. Jamf Device Checker for iOS provides a nice experience with helpful device health info. Would love to see a Device Compliance Section in the Self Service+ picture somehow. Looking forward to stronger health visibility in the Self Service+ landscape for macOS.
7️⃣ Community and caffeine. The ladies over at the Community Café served up a Kansas City home run. Loved the lattes. Thanks for the chats and Jamf goodies. Shout out to the baristas for the morning jolt!
8️⃣ Heroes assembled. And highlighted. On a poster. On many posters. All around the conference floors. And I was one of those highlighted. I feel… grateful.
9️⃣ Now that we are trying to move away from configuration profiles, how are admins deploying their security compliance benchmarks? The Jamf Compliance Editor app was just updated. I’m comfortable using it. I’ve been playing with the built-in Jamf Compliance section in Jamf Pro, but only in Monitor mode. I like the ease of Jamf Compliance Editor, especially for its ability to deploy configs and export branded baseline reports. How are you handling your security benchmarks for OS 27? Are you using a hybrid of blueprints and profiles? I plan to stick with Jamf Compliance Editor for another year. What’s your jam?
