The Wall That Talked: What We Learned at JNL London and Berlin

Another year, another Jamf Nation Live London and Berlin in the bag! And this might be bold to say, but I think it was the best one yet.

This year, the Community team wanted to approach things differently. Rather than assuming we know what you need from us, we wanted to hear it directly from you, the community members, so we could understand our gaps and figure out how to close them.

My "vision" was simple: create an interactive space that got attendees to stop and think about where they are in their Apple admin career, and see other people right there alongside them. We built a wall showcasing the different stages an Apple admin might find themselves in, from just starting out in management and security, all the way through to leading teams and strategy, with plenty of stops in between. Attendees filled in cards with a mix of light-hearted preference questions (light mode vs. dark mode... guess what won? 🌚) and the areas where they'd like more help, like AI integration, career growth, security and compliance, community and networking, product knowledge and Zero Trust implementation.

The goal was simple too: gather real community data to understand exactly where our blindspots are in Jamf Nation's community program, and where we can meet you, exactly where you need us.

The results were brilliant, and that's all down to the 447 of you across both cities who took the time to fill in a card and add it to the wall (with a bit of enticing swag thrown in for good measure!).

So, what did we actually learn? Here are the key takeaways:

AI integration is the loudest, clearest signal we got, at both events. 80% of you told us you need more help here. It showed up as the top need in London (84%) and Berlin (76%), across every career stage, from admins just getting started to people running enterprise-scale environments. This isn't a regional trend or a niche worry, it's a career-wide gap, and we hear you.

Career growth is the #1 ask once you've found your feet. 77% of you flagged it, and it ranks highest for admins who are hitting their stride, running enterprise environments and leading teams. Interestingly, it wasn't just senior folks either. In Berlin, career growth was actually the top need for admins brand new to the role too (88%), more so than in London, which tells us onboarding may need to look a little different depending on where you're joining us from. We're already working on this. This year we launched our Development Series, and we're keen to build on it and get more of you in front of it, but we know there's more to do and we're genuinely open to your ideas.

Community and networking is what our most experienced admins actually want. 76% overall, and it's the top priority for leadership, especially in Berlin, where 89% of leaders told us this is what they're after. Senior admins aren't showing up for product knowledge, they want to connect with peers, compare notes, and learn from people navigating the same challenges.

New admins want product knowledge, but where you're starting matters. If you've just joined Jamf, you're eager to learn the ropes, and in London that meant product knowledge topped the list. We need to make sure the community is supporting you here every step of the way.

So, what's next? We're taking this data seriously. It'll shape the content, events and resources we build, and where we focus our energy, so we're serving the right people at the right stage of their journey with Jamf, wherever in the world you're joining us from. This kind of insight is exactly what lets us build a community that works for the people actually using it, you, our customers and partners.

But in the spirit of community, we want to hear your voices too. If you filled in one of these cards, or you'd love to see more support around any of these topics, tell us below: what could we introduce to Jamf Nation to meet these needs? What would actually help? We're all ears.

What a great, thoughtful writeup! I agree with the bullet points. These essential takeaways capture what’s been on my mind as well. 🤔
