Hello jamf nation,

If the goal of the new Jamf Nation Rewards program is to generate more content, user numbers and traffic, then it would be cool if jamf also considered redesigning the forum page. There are no specific topic areas. I can only search or scroll down. If I have then scrolled down so far that I have to click on "load more", then open a post and click back again, I am back at the top of the homepage and have to go back to the bottom and click on "load more". The only way to avoid this is to open a post in a new tab. Are there any thoughts on this?l

@Mitchell_Gordon

Cheers

Generally speaking, Jamf Nation does not have a large user base unfortunately; especially when compared to something like TechNet. Then the vast majority of us use Jamf Pro, which leaves the Jamf School, and especially Jamf Now users in the cold. That is not even getting started on the Jamf Protect, and Safe Internet users which almost never see a resolution to their posts. The default view of Jamf Nation is to show all the posts, but you could navigate to specific topic areas like Jamf Now if you wanted to. I feel if Jamf segregated the posts more obviously, it would make the message board seem dead.

In addition to needing to grow the active user base, Jamf really needs to figure out how to get the spam posts under control. They introduced NoCaptcha last year to try to get bot posts under control which did not work very well. Right now, there are quite a few foreign (usually Hindi) spam posts for random phishing services, and a rise of chatBot posts. These dilute the content of the message board and take the admins time away from moderation.

I think most people use the MacAdmins Slack channel for communication, particularly for quick answers to problems/issues.

Hello @BookMac If you use the top navigation this might help you navigate the site more than the homepage itself. The discussions, at this time, are under products. I have put a direct link below to this space. You can also get credit for contributions to groups an beta's/feedback groups ect.

https://community.jamf.com/t5/products/ct-p/forums

We are looking at making some improvements in the coming months to the platform. I hope to be able to share more information on this as we get closer to releasing any updates.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated as we look to build a space for all our users!

When I use the https://community.jamf.com/t5/products/ct-p/forums link I do not see the page with the “Explore Forums by Product” section shown in @AJPinto ‘s post, and the Jamf Nation banner I’m presented has no Products section:

Any clues how I can correct that?

Hello @sdagley The screenshots shown are from 2024. We have had a change in platforms which resulted in a change in structure. “General Discussions” would be the equivalent location today.
Hope this helps!

@Mitchell_Gordon Thanks for the clarification, I misunderstood @AJPinto ‘s post to indicate that there was a section on the new forum I wasn’t seeing.

Unfortunately when I saw the new layout during the preview I made a bad assumption that the lack of product specific sections was because the content from the old site hadn’t been migrated over. If I had realized that I would have said that having all of the product related posts grouped under a single “General Discussions” section is a significant degradation in usability for Jamf Nation, and I really hope that will be addressed in the upcoming improvement you reference.

Thanks for the feedback, @sdagley. We always appreciate it! The interesting thing about having different forums for different products was they were RARELY used. More than 95% of all posts ended up in the Jamf Pro forum.

We looked at all the data, and made our decision to have one forum for all product discussions based on what the community told us (and showed us) they wanted as a whole. By the use of labels and search, folks should easily be able to find what they need. But, as always, we’ll continue to monitor behavior (and feedback). Our goal is always to build, and maintain, a space that works for the community. 😀 Thanks for all of your contributions!

Thanks @JeniA I can understand that having the majority of post in the old JN forum being in the Jamf Pro section would imply the product specific sections weren’t being well utilized, but I don’t know that labels are a great substitute.

As an example I’ll use the following post which appears to be asking about how something can be done in Jamf Pro but has an accepted solution that is Jamf Protect specific, and there’s nary a label to be found:

@sdagley The user, creating the content, has the opportunity to use a label when creating a post. If a user does not pick one, the content will be posted without a label.

We listened to users when making this decision. As 95% of all posts ended up in Jamf Pro, a lot of other posts went unviewed/discussed. Be conjoining these conversation areas it not only simplifies where things should be posted but ensures all conversations have the opportunity to be discussed.
