I downloaded Adobe CS5 Installed Products.composer from the jamf website I cannot get this to open in composer how do I do this?

Screensaver password prompt in 10.7.5 and 10.8

Hello, jamf nation . . . I've been happily using an MCX setting to enforce the password prompt when machines come out of the screensaver through 10.7.4, but it appears that the current dev build of 10.7.5 and retail 10.8 no longer respond to that setting.Has anyone found a way of turning that setting on and not allowing users to turn it off on those OS revisions? Is this possible to set with a configuration profile? The MCX I currently use: Domain: com.apple.screensaverKey Name: AskForPasswordKey Type: integerApplied as: User Level EnforcedValue: 1 Edit: forgot to mention that this only applies to machines imaged with 10.7.5 and 10.8. Machines that have had this MCX set on a previous OS rev like 10.7.3 that are then upgraded to 10.8. or 10.7.5 do continue to have the checkbox greyed out. Weird!!

AD Binding 10.8.3 Casper 8.71

I have been having this issue with binding my computers to AD via Casper Imaging and I wanted to see if there was a solve. I have been looking at the discussion board, but it seems that I havent been able to find the problem. First, this is what I am trying to do: Using Casper Imaging:- I have a base image that I am using that has a Wifi Profile installed in the Admin account. It is a System level profile. We are using Radius and have it set to install a certificate from AD and stores a randomly generated wifi password in the keychain- I have a configuration setup in Casper Admin to install the image and bind the machine to AD. - Casper imaging is on its own network segment and all of the machines are connected via ethernet to image. The problem:- The computer doesn't bind to AD at imaging time - I have gone into the logs and I get the following error: "An error occurred binding to Active Directory: dsconfigad: The plugin encountered an error processing request

Giving User access to Casper Admin Management Framework Under Setting in JSS

Any advice would be greatly received... I have a user in a remote site that needs to see the Casper Admin Management Framework Under Settings in our JSS, but I do not want to grant full management to the user. Can anyone point me to the correct combination of access Privileges to grant this? As I can't seem to... Thank you, Neil

Use iCloud for JSS SMTP?

Is it possible to use iCloud as an SMTP relay? I've used the correct credentials and settings from this KB: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864, but I keep getting the "Unable to verify SMTP Service" error. Thoughts?

Did our JSS have gonja brownies for lunch?

I mean, really? Timeout is set to a very high number, and no changes made to JSS, but Safari is acting like it had ganja brownies for lunch. Is there a known issue? How do we stop JSS from timing out in Safari? Don

Active Directory - JSS - Cal question.

Basic question. We will be using configuration profiles to bind our machines to AD and pass them over to the Certificate Authority on our new AD server to pick up a 802.1x cert (root - machine level). (As per this thread https://jamfnation.jamfsoftware.com/article.html?id=209). My question is; "Does this require the JSS to possess a CAL? from everything I know about AD (not much) it won't, but I didn't know. If anyone could give me an idea I'd sure appreciate it.

Unable to install Lion on new iMac Late 2012

We got some new iMac Late 2012 machines in recently and in the interest of keeping all operating systems the same (Lion) and not having four machines only having Mountain Lion to start off a frenzy of "gimme gimme" and forcing us to prematurely install Mountain Lion everywhere - we would prefer to backrev them to Lion. And yet we seem to have run into Mac's.........desire to have all new hardware on Mtn Lion......are there any tricks that you're aware of to get these new machines to the ancient and obviously outdated year-old Lion OS?

Smart Group on FileVault 2 status?

I'm not sure if I'm missing anything, but is there a way to build a smart group off of the FileVault 2 Status from the Storage information? In the Computer information from Inventory, I see the status if I click on the Storage section, but if I drill down in the smart group creation in the Storage Information section, I don't have an option for Status is "decrypting." I do have an EA for FV2 status (Thanks Rich!), but I was wondering if I was missing another way to do it.

OT: Compiling Nagios nrpe and plug-ins on 10.7

Sorry for the Off Topic thread Does anyone currently use nrpe to monitor your servers? I'm running into an issue while compiling nrpe and the nagios plug-ins on Lion and was wondering if anyone has successfully accomplished the same task. It appears to be an issue with the bundled perl. Installing files into ~/Applications

I've been speaking to a colleague at another company about how they deal with installing applications that needs to be updated often. They manually add a /Applications folder under the users home folder and then install the application in there. They do this manually with ARD. To me it sounds awesome not having to run around like a headless chick to update stuff like Spotify and instead just let the user have permission to do so without giving them admin access to the entire machine. My problem is that I don't know how to automate this and deploy it with Self-Service. Do you have any suggestions?

More Adobe CS6 Mucky-Muck

So I'm building our new 10.8.3 image with Adobe CS 6 and have discovered that the only surefire way to get Adobe CS6 to install is to have it run as a separate install that runs as part of the Casper post-flight or post-imaging installation process. Trying to have CS 6 install as part of the normal imaging workflow fails miserably. Normally, I'd just do this and be done: Each machine would be imaged and then reboot, then CS 6 would install, and be done with it. But I'm discovering that the CS 6 takes far too long to install. For instance: I'm imaging from a local drive while booted from an SSD drive via Thunderbolt. My BaseOS + iLife11 + everything else images in about 5 minutes. Upon restart, the post-imaging script fires off and the CS 6 installer starts. The CS 6 installer alone takes almost 25 minutes to compete. This is totally unacceptable and has taken my imaging time per machine from about 6-7 minutes to 30+ minutes. So the $25,000 question: How do I ame

Complete uninstall of the JSS

hey all, How can I uninstall JSS 8.4 from my Snow Leopard Server completely with no trace it ever lived there?I want to repurpose a very useful Mac server and don't want to go through the whole reinstallation process, since the machine has many sharepoints, configs, users, etc. thanks, -pat

What non-standard port works well for JSS if we choose to use 8443 for iCal Server?

I have a client that finished their Jumpstart this week. We are very likely to have the JSS be on a server that shares iCal server and port 8443 will be in conflict in this case. https://jamfnation.jamfsoftware.com/article.html?id=120 Has anyone documented a good alternate port to run tomcat? I've done some light searching but haven't seen this documented. If no one has a good guide, I'll check to see what ports our firewalls allow (or if there is consensus on which ports are generally open on most firewalls) and document our decision here with an answer when we decide what we will do with tomcat on the JSS that sits in a DMZ / publicly routable IP address.

Non Jamf Related Netapp and Mac OSX

We are having serious issues with netapp filers and osx specifically in the area of search. Search does not appear to be working at all and users are getting very frustrated. I am wondering if anyone else is having similar issues and possibly knows of a fix. I have tried Extremez-ip reshare and this helps slightly with search however it slows down file performance. I have tried Dave and that is similar.

JSS or MySQL error

I originally posted about having issues with response times on 10/31/12 but didn't get anywhere. Here I am late May still with the same issue and it seems to only be getting worse. I'm using Casper Suite 8.7 on Mac OS 10.6.8, Xserve (Late 2006) Here are some symptoms: - While trying to compile an image the JSS was completely inaccessible and when the compilation was trying to create the final dmg I got an error that the distribution point was unavailable and the compilation failed - I then had no remote access to the server and the JSS was still inaccessible (yet I could still ping) so I had to go restart the server.- Since setting logs to be flushed at midnight and database backups to be done at 3 AM I've been getting errors in the MySQL service log (MySQL version 5.0.92 Source distribution):130529 0:00:15 [ERROR] /usr/libexec/mysqld: Incorrect key file for table './jamfsoftware/usage_logs.MYI'; try to repair it130529 3:06:55 {note} Found 23278243 of 23270

Recon 8.7 after Mac OS X 10.8.4 Update

Since the update from Mac OS X 10.8.3 to 10.8.4, Recon will no longer launch - well, it looks like it has launched in the dock, but I got no Recon Window, and I can't quit the app with out force quitting. Has anyone else seen this?

Macbook Pro remotely locked via jamf passcode....is there a way to remotely remove that lock now?

So, we have a macbook that we believe is missing/stolen. My first thought was to send a lock to the machine with the hopes that the user would then call in so we could identify who had it( that would only work if whoever had, was a legitimate district user) No call now, so our next step would be to remotely install the Prey software so we can get screenshots and more information....The machine has not checked in yet to receive the lock command sent....is there a way for me to remove that lock command remotely? I only see remote mobile device commands, and well the macbook isnt considered a mobile device. One would think since the ability is there to remove the lock from an ipad, it should be there for a macbook as well.. Any thoughts?

User Level Configuration Profiles

I am can not get User Level Profiles to be installed. Computer Level works just fine. Remote Lock and Wipe work too. Any ideas? Thanks!

LDAP Active Directory C Connection on JSS

I have found the documentation to be lacking with regards to configuring the Active Directory integration on the JSS. I have 2 issues: What do I enter for the host? Every other AD connection I have configured usually just needs the domain information and not a specific server. Can I use a domain controller? What rights does the service account used require? Thanks for any guidance anyone can provide.

Avoid One-Time Setup of VMWare Fusion

Hi. Due to the reason our users are non admin Users we want to avoid the One-Time Setup process of VMWare fusion after we have installed it.We can not do the Mass deployment as suggested in http://www.jamfsoftware.com/libraries/pdf/white_papers/VMware_and_CasperSuite.pdf as we do not have a Site/Company license for it. Is there any other way to avoid this? Thanks,Maik
