How do I setup a policy that will use the Apple software update server to check for software updates AT LOGOUT ? How do I setup a policy that will use the Apple software update server to check for software updates AUTOMATIC ? will it automatically point to the Apple SUS ? why setup internal SUS ?

I am trying to create a Smart group criteria that lists computers not installed with version 20 of a certain application. Computers can have previous versions of this software installed, such as 17, 18, 19. I have a computer that has version 18 and 20 installed, but no matter what criteria I create this computer that has version 20 keeps appearing in my Smart group. Application Title has Dummy.app AND Application Version NOT LIKE 20 OR Application Title Does NOT HAVE Dummy.app no matter what criteria I do, this one computer keeps showing up in the Smart Group.

In short I have coupled the Deploying an OS X Upgrade workflow with the displayMessage.sh shell script to encourage the users in our environment to upgrade to OS X El Capitan. Below, you’ll find the workflow in a little more detail. Clients not already upgraded to OS X El Capitan (10.11.x) or with the Install OS X El Capitan.InstallESD.dmg already locally cached, will be included in the OS X El Capitan Needed (Not Cached) smart group. The "Install OS X El Capitan.InstallESD.dmg" policy will run at next check-in, once per computer to aforementioned scope and then run a JSS inventory to update the system that this policy has run successfully. The client will now fall into scope for the OS X El Capitan Needed (Cached) smart group. This first triggers the "Display Message: Ready to Install OS X El Capitan" policy which simply alerts the user that the update is available in Self Service. The policy will not complete until the user hits OK at which point Self Service is launched and the "

does a policy that adds a dock item, add the item for all users? or just the current user?

Good morning from warm and sunny Minneapolis! Wanted to let people know that there will be several of us from JAMF attending WWDC next week. We'll be setting up a gathering to say hello and discuss the State of the Nation. Let us know if you'll be at WWDC - we'd love to see you!

Is there another way to up Tomcats’ memory in Windows other than using tomcat7w.exe? We’re running our JSS on Windows 2012 R2, and our DB is MySQL on a separate Linux server. I’d like to up Tomcat’s memory via the JSS, but when I try and use C:Program FilesJSSTomcatin omcat7w.exe I see an error. My understanding is that since MySQL is not installed on the same server as the JSS that’s the reason. I don’t want to install MySQL on a production server just so I can up Tomcat’s memory if I don’t have to. Is there another way to do this?

is it possible to change the name (in Casper Admin) associated with a Dock Item ? if so how ? for example; application is named Pumpkin.app but I want the dock item to be named 'Pump' NOT Pumpkin

I've set up a Software Update Server and pointed clients at it in the JSS. This seems to work fine on most clients, but on a few it's still going to Apple / App Store for updates. if I run the command to check where it's pointed: sudo defaults read /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL I get this response every time: The domain/default pair of (/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate, CatalogURL) does not exist This is on El Cap and Yosemite clients. Not sure if it's something wrong with that command, I'd expect it to return something?

Hi we are trying set all machines to have the same wallpaper via self service does any one have any advice on how to do this.

I have a self service policy that i'm testing to install IBM SPSS 24. I'm using the .bin file and the installer.properties file to set install options. The silent install needs java installed. The policy installs both Java and the SPSS 24. The policy runs, installs Java re 8u91 first and then SPSS 24, I keep getting prompted that Java needs to be installed - IT IS installed !! it says - to use the "java" command-line tool you need to install a JDK click "More Info ..." to visit the Java Development Kit download website. I click More Info and it sends me to the JRE-8u91 anybody successfully install SPSS 24 and get it licensed at the same time ?We have a composer created policy but the first time SPSS 24 gets launched, we are prompted to enter the license key ? where is the license key info located ?

Hi everyone, I'm new to JSS and seeking professional advices of yours. My company intends to purchase 100 units of iPads under DEP, but need to clear some haze in mind before doing it. We have list of employee details from Apple open directory, LDAP had been configured. Instead of we pre-assigned iPad-A to User-A, iPad-B to User-B and iPad-C to User-C, we are considering every individual employee randomly pick an iPad, switch it on, login in with LDAP credential, and JSS will pick up the info from LDAP and auto input user's details into Users management, such as Name, email address, department and etc. From JSS, we shall see which iPad has been auto assigned to different users based on their LDAP credential, and 'Configuration Profiles' will be pushed to different iPad accordingly. May I know if all these are possible to be done? I can't find much information about prestage enrollment so I need someone to guide me, thanks for reading.

Hi everybody, did anyone can tell me if the packages are stored only on the distribution points ? or, does the "JSS" store a copy of the packages ?

Hello, Just a quick question, what's the best way to cancel or revoke a pushed out policy? I have pushed to all our machines to cache an app, but now I want those machines to delete the app. Do I need another policy to delete the cached app? Many Thanks.

I am working on our new image for the semester. I just noticed that when I go to log off, the Menu Bar disappears. The computer has not crashed as I can click on something in the Dock. Is not an issue o a fresh image. I guess I will have to go thru the software that I installed to see what is causing it.But is there a magic script I can throw at it to bring the Menu Bar back? Thanks in advance

Hello, I created a policy to reset the Administrator password for all Macs (right now it's limited to just my test Mac). It works, however when I try to log on to any account on the system (not just the administrator) for the first time after the change I get a message that the system was unable to unlock your login keychain with 3 choices Continue log inCreate new keychainUpdate keychain password Any idea what's happening here?

what are some of the ways JAMF nation Casper admins create Java pkg for installation ? Java8u91 comes as a .dmg and then mounts as a .app - that says 'Double-click on icon to install' are you using composer? the .app ?

I have a policy setup that is scoped to a smart computer group consisting of only MacBooks. The policy is setup to create a shortcut to a script located in the top level of the directory. The policy runs a script #!/bin/sh cd /Users/$3/Desktop if [ ! -L "Backup.sh" ] then ln -s /Backup.sh else exit 0 fi to create an Alias to /Backup.sh on the users desktop. The script works with out issue on most computer but every once in a while I will get a failed policy showing: Executing Policy Backup Shortcut Running script Create Backup Shortcut... Script exit code: 1 Script result: ln: ./Backup.sh: File exists Error running script: return code was 1. Does anyone have any idea why this would be happening? If I run the script locally there are no issues and usually if I force the policy to run again on the erred machine it runs without issue. Any help is appreciatedAttached is the trigger settings for the policy as well

Hey everyone! I've been looking to see if there is a way I can add multiple categories at once, maybe upload a CSV file or something. I want to create multiple categories that represents each one of our school locations, which is about 45, and some additional categories. Can this be done in JSS, Casper Admin, or something else?

Hello,I'm on JSS 9.92I try to update some iMac (10.9.5) with execute commands in "Files and Processes":sudo softwareupdate --install iTunesX-12.4.1 The policy is executed (status completed) but the update is always available in softwareupdate -l What's wrong ?Thanks for helping...

When a laptop battery dies, after it's revived, the Date/Time is reset to 1/1/01 and the WiFi connection is lost. We've found that if the machine is plugged into ethernet & allowed to do a time sync that way, the issue is resolved after a reboot. These are all MacBook Pro/Unibody models, 2010 or newer, 10.6+. Is there any way to resolve this without having to set out patch cables at random locations & educate our users how to self-heal, so to speak? We have all Cisco APs/switches, but I think it's more OS/machine-based than a network time issue. Gracias--DVG

So I installed Java 7 on my Ubuntu 14.04 server but the JSS is still using the Java 1.6. How can I get the JSS to use the newer java?

It has come to our attention that some of our Mac clients do not have 'Create mobile account at login' set in the User Experience section of Directory Bindings. A large portion of our clients need this for when they are at home and want to log on to their MacBooks under their network account. Is there any way to propagate this out post-AD bind or does this have to be set up at the moment of binding (I assume this is the case). If I have to re-bind, is this likely to cause any issues.

Has anyone been successful at deploying folder actions through Casper? There appears to be some potential with an Applescript. I've gotten the following script to work for 10.6 up through 10.10 but the "attach action" command appears to have been deprecated in 10.11. It will enable folder actions on the specified folder in 10.11 but does not assign the folder action script. tell application "System Events" attach action to folder "path/to/folder" using "path/to/script" end tell My other thought was to edit the “com.apple.FolderActionsDispatcher.plist” located in the user’s preferences folder. This is storing the data that assigns the folder actions and scripts. However, the XML node storing the data I would need to change appears to be encrypted. Initially, my thought was that I could use the “defaults write” command to edit this file and use some variables to accommodate for all the different accounts. Anyone know if there’
