We're trying to migrate our Workgroup Manager preferences to JSS and we're not finding managed preference templates for a lot of our WGM settings. Here are a few of the keys I've found in our WGM configuration that I can't find equivalents for in JSS. I downloaded Adobe CS5 Installed Products.composer from the jamf website I cannot get this to open in composer how do I do this?

I have been having this issue with binding my computers to AD via Casper Imaging and I wanted to see if there was a solve. I have been looking at the discussion board, but it seems that I havent been able to find the problem. First, this is what I am trying to do: Using Casper Imaging:- I have a base image that I am using that has a Wifi Profile installed in the Admin account. It is a System level profile. We are using Radius and have it set to install a certificate from AD and stores a randomly generated wifi password in the keychain- I have a configuration setup in Casper Admin to install the image and bind the machine to AD. - Casper imaging is on its own network segment and all of the machines are connected via ethernet to image. The problem:- The computer doesn't bind to AD at imaging time - I have gone into the logs and I get the following error: "An error occurred binding to Active Directory: dsconfigad: The plugin encountered an error processing request

Any advice would be greatly received... I have a user in a remote site that needs to see the Casper Admin Management Framework Under Settings in our JSS, but I do not want to grant full management to the user. Can anyone point me to the correct combination of access Privileges to grant this? As I can't seem to... Thank you, Neil

Is it possible to use iCloud as an SMTP relay? I've used the correct credentials and settings from this KB: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864, but I keep getting the "Unable to verify SMTP Service" error. Thoughts?

FYI...the process name changed as of Lion (was DirectoryService, but is now opendirectoryd): https://jamfnation.jamfsoftware.com/viewProductFile.html?id=135&fid=438 PS, sending email to our rep. Thanks,Don

I have a client that finished their Jumpstart this week. We are very likely to have the JSS be on a server that shares iCal server and port 8443 will be in conflict in this case. https://jamfnation.jamfsoftware.com/article.html?id=120 Has anyone documented a good alternate port to run tomcat? I've done some light searching but haven't seen this documented. If no one has a good guide, I'll check to see what ports our firewalls allow (or if there is consensus on which ports are generally open on most firewalls) and document our decision here with an answer when we decide what we will do with tomcat on the JSS that sits in a DMZ / publicly routable IP address.

So, we have a macbook that we believe is missing/stolen. My first thought was to send a lock to the machine with the hopes that the user would then call in so we could identify who had it( that would only work if whoever had, was a legitimate district user) No call now, so our next step would be to remotely install the Prey software so we can get screenshots and more information....The machine has not checked in yet to receive the lock command sent....is there a way for me to remove that lock command remotely? I only see remote mobile device commands, and well the macbook isnt considered a mobile device. One would think since the ability is there to remove the lock from an ipad, it should be there for a macbook as well.. Any thoughts?

I am can not get User Level Profiles to be installed. Computer Level works just fine. Remote Lock and Wipe work too. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi. Due to the reason our users are non admin Users we want to avoid the One-Time Setup process of VMWare fusion after we have installed it.We can not do the Mass deployment as suggested in http://www.jamfsoftware.com/libraries/pdf/white_papers/VMware_and_CasperSuite.pdf as we do not have a Site/Company license for it. Is there any other way to avoid this? Thanks,Maik

The build number is 12E55.

Whil i am trying to supervise the iPads i am getting error "Backup file specified in options is no longer available". Actually these devices were supervised before but students Erased everything on the iPad so the Supervised profiles were also erased. When connected them back AC then AC identified them and Supervised them again but when I get to checkout at this stage I get the aforesaid error message.

Hey.I'm facing a small issue that I want to fix.We deploy VMWare Fusion and Virtual machines via Self Service. Under /Library/Application Support/VMware/VMware Fusion/Shared it saves a file called vmInventory that lists the virtual machines that are shared on the local machine (as they are located in the /Users/Shared/VM folder. Once a VM is added to the system via Self service I would like to add them to the file automatically. cat xxx > vmInventory is not working as it not combines both files rather then overwriting the content of the existing vmInventory. Any other idea? Thanks in advance.

Hi all I recently made some renamed the /Applications/appname.app/_MASReceipt folder on our machines so that the app store versions of the iLife suite could update using our internal software update server. Since doing so, users can no longer print photos in iPhoto, the following error appears: No Available ThemesThere were no themes located. Until at least one theme has been installed, this feature will be unavailable. If I put the _MASReceipt folder back in its original location, the error message doesnt occur. Is anyone else making the _MASReceipt change also seeing this issue?

Anyone got a good dummies guide for the JSS API (or REST). I want to query a devices assigned peripheral. (We have some software that is licensed to the macs induvidually.. So I'd like to add the license as a peripheral & then query the JSS for it).

When I am importing another configuration profile in Apple Configurator, I am getting an error saying that "This configuration profile already exists. Do you want to replace it ? Another version of this configuration profile named <Shared iPads> already exists in the library. Replacing it will overwrite its current contents." Let me add that I want to use 2 different configuration profiles because I want to keep the shared and one-to-one ipad profiles settings separate and handy. I think we can only import one configuration profile at a time in Apple Configurator. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Hi All Just looking for some guidance on the above. I have an application that I have packaged but it requires the users $PATH variable to be edited. Just wondering how to go about doing this. I don't want to export my packaging machines .profile and add it to the package for the users machines, as they might have variables written from other installations and I don't want to overwrite them. So want to see if there is anything in the JSS that can possibly push out variables? We use DMG's in our environment so cannot run a post install script to add it. The users also want to use the application through command line from Terminal so I cannot even write a launcher.app to write the variable then launch the application. So, does anyone have any ideas on how to handle user variables? Thanks, Jim

I took the bog standard VirtualBox package and added it to the JSS. When it deploys as part of a policy, there are no issues, but if it is included as part of a configuration it fails to install. The imaging log does not show an error; the application simply does not exist on the machine after imaging. Has anyone seen something like this?

I have an EA that pulls the version number of the Adobe Camera Raw plug-in on machines with the CS5 suite. It only seems to be returning info on 10.7 and 10.8 machines. This is my EA: #!/bin/bash # get the current version of the Camera Raw plug in echo -n "<result>" defaults read /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS5/File Formats/Camera Raw.plugin/Contents/Info.plist CFBundleShortVersionString echo "</result>" If I run just the command <defaults read /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS5/File Formats/Camera Raw.plugin/Contents/Info.plist CFBundleShortVersionString> on 10.7 it returns the correct value (6.7 (339)). When I try it on a 10.6.8 machine it returns:"The domain/default pair of (/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS5/File Formats/Camera Raw.plugin/Contents/Info.plist, CFBundleShortVersionString) does not exist" I've done some googling but haven't found anything that pointed me to a c

Hey all: I have a Configuration Profile set up to push VPN settings to our users. IPSec Cisco using a Shared Secret and Group Name with $USERNAME in the Account section. Half the time this Profile gets pushed, it will populate the username in the account field, but the other half it leaves it blank. I DON'T KNOW WHY. Is there something I should be looking for? I'm pushing it as a User Level profile. Related to this, but more generally applicable, is there a simple way to re-push profiles? I've been toggling the Scope of profiles in order to get the "Distribute to New/Distribute to All" prompt, but a) sometimes the prompt page doesn't come up (why?); and b) what a silly way to do it. Let me know your thoughts! Michael

I'm testing locking firmware on machines in conjunction with Casper Imaging 8.7. I'm following the instructions in the Administrator's Guide (page 269). - Netboot to my imaging environment- In Casper Imaging, select "Custom Install" and under the "Accounts" section, have it add a firmware password. Once I do this, I can see the command in the left telling me it's going to do it, but when the machine images then reboots, there's no firmware password set. The Imaging Logs show no errors. Question: does Casper Imaging rely on a Recovery Partition to be present for this to work?

Hi Nation Has anyone had trouble while testing Focus that it will not show up any apps to focus on apart from Safari. Every time I choose an iPad or choose to focus the group of iPads on an app, it won't show up any other app in the list for me to choose to focus on except Safari. Any ideas?

I remember that even though you could sync a wireless and the Casper Enrollment profile with Configurator, you still had to tap the screen a bunch of times to accept and allow the profiles to be used AND even more taps if the devices were new. This in turn caused timeout issues with multiple iOS devices. Is this still the case? I'll admit we haven't looked at the Configurator in a while, but looking at Casper Focus and the need to use Supervise in Configurator thought I would ask. Patrick

Hey all, I'm trying to verify if a Mac to be reimaged is already in active directory. We autogenerate a new name for the mac each time it is reimaged, and I don't want it binding to the AD with an old name, so I wanted to check the name against AD before imaging using dscl. ComputerName=`diskutil list | grep disk0 | grep "2:" | awk '{print $3}'` ## Find if the computer is already in Active Directory. If it is, exit. We need to remove it from AD IsInAD=$(dscl /Active Directory/All Domains/ -read /Computers/$ComputerName$ | grep UniqueID) It works great from a mac that is bound to the same directory. I was wondering if there is a way to do this from a Mac that IS NOT bound to the same directory (or any directory, actually). Does anyone have any experience with this? Andrew

I'd like to move our users Profiles to a secondary partition. I've been trying various scripts with limited success. When I came across the "Mobility" option in Configuration Profiles I thought I was onto a good thing. I can only set this option up under User Level not Computer. The issue I'm having is the first time a user logs in their profile is being created on the primary partition. Subsequent logins are then directed to the second partition. Is there a way to apply this profile at the first login? I found the suggestion by dzmudzki - https://jamfnation.jamfsoftware.com/discussion.html?id=4855 However now when I login it's creating a "phantom" user profile on the primary partition while creating the proper profile on the secondary partition.
