10.6 deployment

Not applicable

Hi Everyone,

I know I am a little behind here, but I am trying to figure out how to roll out a basic or full install of 10.6 or higher. I have a new iMac with the latest OS installer and I thought if I made a .dmg of that install disk, that I could Casper Admin to load it and prepare it for installation on any other iMac that might be a little older. Is there any gotcha's? I haven't been able to get this to work.

Is there a minimum coming from my XServe for its OS? It is 10.4.11, so I am new to this 10.6 deployment stuff.

Thanks for your patience. I am close to getting all of the pieces in place to make this work smoothly. Casper is new to me though.

Mick

If you're using Casper 7, no need to snap an image of a machine's OS. Use
the 10.6 install disk and create an image from it. Casper 7 can use this as
its base OS. See the documentation for more info.

Hey Mick,

There are a few different methods that you could use, but the way I
typically build OS base configurations would be to do the following:

On your newest piece of hardware, install a clean OS.
Download and Install all system updates
* Repair Permissions

(This will be your 10.6 base)

*Target boot the computer that you just built your base image on (At startup
hold down the "T" button).
*Connect the target booted machine to another Mac and launch Composer.

*From within Composer you can select the option to "Create OS Package".

upload to your Casper server via Casper Admin.

If you are building a 10.6 image, just be aware that you will only be able
to deploy that to Intel Macs. It will not run on PPC machines as well as a
few earlier Intels that did not meet the system requirements for 10.6
