Question

Apple IDs and App Redemption

Forum|alt.badge.img+6

I'm new to JAMF so I have a lot of questions!

I'm setting up 700 iPads for a secondary school.

I understand that when an app is deployed to a device, it is redeemed by that Apple ID.

If that device is turned in (student changes schools, etc.), I think the app is then returned to available inventory - in that the code is returned to a list of unused codes and can be used again and associated with a new Apple ID.

Is this correct?

Thank you!

Incorrect I'm afraid - once an app has been redeemed by an ID, it's owned by that ID. Think of App purchase as consumables in this case...

You will need an Apple ID for your institution to make this possible. If you are using the Cart or One-to-One program you can use your institutional Apple ID and a Sync station to make it all work. Once the student returns the iPad the sync station will put it back to compliance using either IPCU or Configurator.
