We're getting ready to migrate our pure SMB windows shares to NetApp shares behind DFS. There seems to have been a lot of evolution to this formula over the past several years, so I'm wondering about the current best practices for this setup. What sort of issues/problems have you seen? What different configurations have you tested and what did you settle on?
One random issue I've seen is that when connecting directly to the namespace root, the DFS folders appear, but following them does not appear to process the referral; that is, double-clicking the folders in the DFS namespace root shows an empty folder. This isn't a huge deal, but I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this odd quirk.
