Mine is not the master collection, it is also Design Premium, you say
that the Master Collection works with out a hitch? Adobe is starting to
really get on my nerves, but everyone uses their products.
Thanks

I am using CS4 Design Premium and the only problem I am encountering is with the Adobe Air installer getting stuck with a popup window, this happens twice on a full install (everything but the Version Cue Server) of Design Premium, and normally once when just Photoshop is being installed. I'm not sure if this is because the Adobe Flash Player plugin is installed first via a dmg, but I haven't had time to look into it fully.
Other than that I'll have to try Pat's method of installing CS4. As it is much quicker than waiting for the installer to install on it's own.

Is this the java proxy window you're seeing? If you disable proxies during
the installation then this problem goes away. I have a .command script that
I double-click to disable proxies using networksetup:
networksetup -setwebproxystate Ethernet off
Then it runs the Setup application and re-enables proxies at the end.

I am using the CS4 Master Collection .dmg from the Adobe electronic
downloads site with a site license. The only way I've successfully
packaged this is to use Composer and do a normal snapshot. What I did was
create a new folder called CS4 on the root of the drive and made
permissions 776. I ran the normal snapshot and installed to this
directory. I took the defaults and installed everything. I opened every
app after install and then built .dmg. I pushed this out during the day to
5 macs at a time on a schedule and had no issues with it.

I wanted to verify this before posting, but I haven't had a problem at all
loading CS4 DP using the Adobe DMG. I added the image to Casper just the
way the book says, adding the dmg then using the Adobe Installer
instructions to add the serial number, etc.
Now, I don't install after imaging, because I was running into issues where
sometimes it would work, and sometimes it would just hang at the jamfHelper
screen.
What I do instead is I have a policy to first cache the CS4 installer, along
with the updates (used Composer to create a diff package to push these). I
trigger that with a manual trigger. Once cached, I follow up with another
policy to do the actual install.
Right now I do this all manually since we are just testing CS4 and not doing
a full deploy. However, once I am ready to roll, I will be adding a dummy
receipt to the cache so I can build a smart group to then do the install on
logout or login, not sure which yet.
I haven't tried doing this with the Master Collection yet, as the Design
Premium has everything we need.

When I run CS4 Master Collection as a policy using the resource kit everything seems ok with the initial installer, but I get a few errors on the updates. At completion of the policy I ran Adobe Updater6 and it found I needed AdobeExtensionManager-2.1 and AfterEffects-9.0.2, but it failed to install. I tried to download and install and that failed, too. Does anyone know if the updates have to be installed on a particular order?
Here is the portion of the policy log for the updates....

Not to my knowledge. The popup from the Adobe Air installer is about it

Well I am reduced to copying the DMG over to the machine locally and then running it, zero problems there. I have to get this out so I am going to come back to this once I get it installed on all my clients

I was installing Master Collection via Casper today and received this Adobe Air message.
This application requires Adobe AIR to function.
Please download the latest version of the
runtime from http://www.adobe.com/go/getair, then launch
the application again.
Maybe this is the error you got?
It interrupts the installer waiting for input. After clicking OK I get an empty "Adobe After Effects CS4" folder. I click OK. Eventually the message pops back up and I get an empty "Adobe Flash CS4" folder. The pattern continues...

I ran into this issue deploying CS4. The problem is that Acrobat Reader will often lay down a version of AIR that's newer than the one that's part of the collection you're trying to deploy. Remove Acrobat Reader and AIR before your deployment and then re-deploy Acrobat Reader afterwards (if needed).

I have Air, Flash, Shockwave and few other runtimes, plugins, widgets and
do-dads installed, configured and ready to use into my Base OS
Configurations.
So I haven't encountered those errors when I rePacked my CS4 deployment
since the it is already available.
