BYOD Program for university students

We are starting a pilot program at our university to provide a BYOD solution for students to have university purchased apps installed on their personal iOS device or Apple Laptop using Casper as the management solution. We have ideas on accomplishing this, hence our dive into a pilot program. But I'm still curious if anyone else has done this type of thing before and what type of experiences you ran into. Any ideas that anyone can share would be greatly appreciated as well.

This would be a great situation to use Apple's Volume Purchase Program, using the Apple ID assignment option.

(You can assign apps two ways, to someone's Apple ID or to a new option, device assignment to one of your JSS enrolled OS X 10.11 or iOS 9 devices.)

To assign an app to someone's Apple ID after you're enrolled in Apple VPP, you purchase the app through the Apple VPP portal, and then send the person an invite via the JSS. The invite links an Apple ID they own to your organization so you can give them apps.

Once they accept the invite, they can be given OS X or iOS apps by you via the JSS. They will find them under Purchases in the App Store. You can take apps away from them when appropriate and the license can be assigned to someone else.
