I have a strange problem-
I recently created a new Macintosh HD.dmg image and now, all of the
machines I image I have blank Desktop & Screensaver preference pane.
(see image 1)
If I control-click, it halfway comes back... but all the entries are
blank. (see image 2)
If I delete the ~/LIbrary/Preferences/com.apple.desktop and restart, it
goes back to square one-blank.
I've tried:
-repairing permissions
-checking permissions on the prefpane file in
/System/Library/PreferencePanes (including package contents)
I'm puzzled, because there are no problems on the machine I used for
imaging. Also, this happens for ALL users-both local admin and
otherwise.
Any ideas??

I have had this problem as well. I tracked it down to our installation of
iWork '08. It turns out iWork '08 was replacing one of the private
frameworks in /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks. Sorry, but I cannot
remember for the life of me if it was the GraphicsAppSupport or
iLifeMediaBrowser.
The fix for me was to replace the framework with a known good copy from our
iLife '08 installer.
And now, being lazy, if I have to install iWork I re-install iLife just to
fix that.

I believe its the iLifeMediaBrowser. If you look in the Console when you open that pane in System Preferences, it will throw an error on the framework.

yes, it most certainly was that. Everyone should make a note of this
because you wouldn't think the graphics would be affected.
thanks
