Any app you download from the mac app store is an app bundle, so .app. I've not downloaded FCP X, but for other Apple apps that are available on the MAS, the process is the same.
You should be able to just copy the app. It downloads in a .app format. I don't remember if you have to authorize the machine once it is on there but I know for updates you would have to authorize the app store to update it.
