External Hard Drive permission issues

Hey all,

Hopefully this is the right place to post this. I support a few Mac labs and I am running in to an issue where students with External Hard Drives formatted as Mac OS Extended use their drives on their home Mac and save a file. Then when they come in to the lab the file permissions are set as read only because they have a different user account name authenticated via AD. An admin can then go in to the drive sharing settings and choose "Ignore ownership on this volume" but this only applies to that specific machine and requires the user to have admin privileges for the lab computer.

Is there a work around that anyone has found to force ownership to be ignored or something similar?

Thanks!

Did you ever find a solution to this? We are still seeing this kind of thing 6 years later.
