GSX 30 Day Expiring Policy

We just had two tech Accounts expire from lack of use on the GSX.
I'm so very new to JAMF and casper, but I was wondering if this could possibly effect GSX lookups in the future, we won't be using the lookup feature often enough to stay within the 30 day window, so does casper or will it have a way of not letting the GSX account expire?

As stated by Apple GSX:

In an effort to help ensure GSX user access is up to date, GSX automatically inactivates users who have not logged in for 30 days. If your account is inactivated and it is necessary to regain GSX access, please contact your service location's GSX Admin, who can easily re-activate your account if appropriate.

It is the responsibility of GSX Admins at each Sold-to account to ensure their GSX user list is kept up to date (only contains current employees) and that correct roles are assigned.

This information is always available in the Service procedure Automatic GSX user inactivation after 30 days of no activity.

H BaddMan,

This has actually affected us yesterday too.

The solution we had to use was to manually unlock the accounts via another Admin user. I'm not sure if it's something casper could fix, but might be worth raising as a feature request as it'll more likely get implemented that way.

I saw it today too. Annoying.

We have an account at GSX dedicated to Casper, so the only "user" will be the JSS. I just wondering if they can just cause a query to happen every 29 days of no use, just to make sure it doesn't expire.

Nothing more, nothing less.

I would be inclined to do a look up a little more frequently then every 29 days
- in case some issue arises on 29th day

So say every 20 or 25 days - that provides a safety window.

On a Thursday I received a reminder that my ACMT was set to expire that Saturday.

So I log in on Friday, I pay for the SW/HW tests, and I complete the SW test without difficulty.

I begin the HW test and BAM!!!...I lose my GSX access (and thus no access to take-apart manuals).

I fail the HW test (80% score, but 1 too many wrong HW answers).

I contacted our Apple rep, he's looking into getting me a coupon to re-take the test.

Hopefully my GSX access will be ready by then, I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

Oh...and our GSX administrator, he lost access too, so he couldn't "fix" my login. :) I'm guessing someone at Apple had a "great GSX policy idea" at a meeting and nobody questioned it...

I don't have GSX access - I can see from Don's note, that the issues around GSX access are even more problematic then I first thought...

We were interested in it, simply to get access to warrantee information...

@chirag, your account rep will need to get you set up and you'll need to have the certifications to do anything really fun in there.

For those looking to get access to GSX and who don't have a GSX account, you need to contact Apple Support, not JAMF / JAMF Nation.

Heads up, two of our GSX-associated email accounts received some very convincing phishing emails that looked like they came from Apple TSPS but they weren't. I only noticed it because I monitor most of the communication coming from Apple to our school and was curious that two diff accounts would receive the very same email. Examination of the URL inside showed that it went to a phishing site and not a password-reset tool as stated.

Unfortunately I think so.

Re: Phishing: It's stupidly common. We are an AASP with many GSX accounts and it's common to get 5-6 of those emails per account per year.

Yep, I have GSX set to send me email alerts. I'm seeing phishing alerts every few weeks.

Kudos to JAMF for being "hands off" on this forum, but I wonder if a brand new account posts something that is either phishing/spam or pirating, shouldn't the post be pulled? Just a thought.

@donmontalvo @damienbarrett I get a plethora of GSX phishing emails. Best thing to do is report them to Apple by forwarding the thread to reportphishing@apple.com - More information in the Apple Article below. Unfortunately, It hasn't stopped the amount of emails I get but at least we can get those email domains flagged by Apple.

I'm waiting for Apple to finally acknowledge someone got a hold of GSX information including customer information.... A couple of us around here have email addresses which that is all they do is work with GSX. For example, my old Casper user in GSX from 3 years ago got the phishing email. That email has never been used and is just an alias anyways. The only reason it exists is to set up the old API-enabled account for Casper to look stuff up before it all went token-based this fall. Lots of info that isn't being communicated there...
