IIS & File Distribution Points

Total JAMF/Casper Noob here. Just got JumpStarted last week. Take it easy on me. ;0)

Im running 2 JSS servers on Windows 2012 R2 VMs. One on the LAN and one in the DMZ. Split DNS points both my internal & external Macs to the appropriate JSS, depending on where they are physically located.

I'm getting IIS services for HTTP (WebDAV) set up today on my DMZ JSS. Previosuly, I had a SMB File Distribution Point on both the JSS located at D:jamf. Id prefer to use HTTP for my external users.

We followed the JAMF IIS Admin/Install Guide and have it set up now. Well, sort of. Questions:

1) Should the “CasperShare” HTTP directory map to the same directory of my File Distribution Point ( D:jamf)? I assume the same packages, images, and scripts can be hosted over both SMB and HTTP from the same physical location, correct?

2) Do I have to use the word “CasperShare" for the HTTP repository? Is the JAMF agent expecting a hard-coded/reserved name of “CasperShare” on my JSS?

  1. Yes
  2. No - The Distribution Point configuration in the JSS tell the clients which URL to use, CasperShare is not in my naming convention.

Thank you, sir. That's exactly what I needed to know.
