I'd like to assign new devices to a user, static group (and therefore config profile) before I hand the device over. For example: the device will be waiting to be setup-at the 'Hello' screen-and assigned to pre-stage enrollment. I add it to a group (which applies a config profile) and assign to a user. User then gets the device and sets it up. So far it seems I cannot find the device in Devices > Inventory until after it gets to a certain point in iOS setup.

+2+6Does your environment have Active Directory? If so, the way we do it is hand them a brand new iPad, and have them sign in with their school issues credentials. The apps and profiles that are scoped to that individual (usually from a group association), are pushed when they get done with setup.
