Do you reuse your Pre-Stage enrollments for iOS devices or do you create a new Pre-Stage Enrollment for each individual purchase that is assigned from DEP?
I am trying to figure out if I have the concept of Pre-Staging wrong with being able to reuse a Pre-Stage Enrollment. I am running into an issue that if I create a Pre-Stage Enrollment for a group of iPads, and set the Mobile Device Names as ‘List of Names’, enter the device names as I would like them to appear in Jamf (eg: LAB-01, LAB-02), scope those iPads assigned from DEP, everything works very well and the devices are named as I had assigned. Yeah!
Then, at a later time, I acquire new iPads. I use the same Pre-Stage Enrollment, update the ‘List of Names’ to include the same naming convention for these iPads (eg: LAB-03, LAB-04) and then scope the new devices. On enrollment the iPads end up with the generic ‘iPad’ name in Jamf. This creates a whole slew of issues with a bunch of iPads with the same generic name.
Is this because I reused the previous Pre-Stage Enrollment?
One benefit that I see to using individual Pre-Stage Enrollments for each purchase is that I can include the specific purchasing information for accurate Asset Management.
Your thoughts and/or experiences are much appreciated.

I am unsure about using "List of names" but I generally use serial number with a prefix and it works consistently everytime. We are a hospital that wipes each device on patient discharge and have not had a single issue in regards to ipad naming. We do use a different prestage for every location/building. Using a different prestage enrollment for each purchase is definitely overkill in my opinion and I dont see a reason why anyone would want to do that. If you need inventory there is GSX accounts or Apple Care Enterprise that provide sufficient inventory data in my opinion.
I know alot of people use MUT to mass change the names of devices after the fact as well.

@miregan. Thanks for the reply and info. I have done a few tests with S/N and prefix-S/N, and that seems to work well and be consistent. This is a university setting with multiple departments and schools, so my naming convention is usually DEPT-LAB-XXX for lab use or DEPT-userid for individual use; that is why I am using List of Names.
For computers I am using a script to rename after DEP enrollment, which works well.
I am not familiar with MUT. I just found https://jssmut.weebly.com and will look into this promptly.
Thank you!
