jamf setup util: STILL OK for newer JSS versions

just a public FYI: i use the old setup until for basic troubleshooting, nothing else. as there's been some debate as to whether or not that's OK, here's the final word.

Hi David,
I did some checking around here, and you should be okay with doing those four functions. Basically, they are just handing off commands to the database to check itself, and the setup utility does not know or care about the schema differences. There are only two identified problems. The downgrading of the database is one, and the other is using the JSS setup utility to setup automatic replication of distribution points will sometimes cause permissions issues on the packages. That is all that we have seen.

We would like to add that we would prefer that people instead take advantage of the new JSS Database Utility which is cross server platform compatible. This has been available since version 8.21, but has even more functionality in our new Casper Suite version 8.4. It can be found on a Mac JSS at /Library/JSS/bin/JSSDatabaseUtility.jar, on Windows JSS at C:Program FilesJSSinJSSDatabaseUtility.jar, and on Linux JSS at /usr/local/jss/bin/JSSDatabaseUtility.jar. For more details on it's use, please reference the Casper Suite Administrator's Guide that is included in the Casper Suite download or it can be found on our website under Resources >> Documentation.

thank you, dan. and, for those of us not yet on the latest/greatest version, it's good to know that the old tools are still reliable.
