JSS update on Linux

Not applicable

I posted a few months ago that I'd moved my JSS to a virtual linux server.
I had hoped to fully document and share my procedures and experiences with
this setup in this forum, but, alas, things being as busy as they are,
documentation is the first thing to get dropped. But, thanks Erik K, for
sharing your experience with an almost identical setup.

Everything has been great with this setup, but now I'm trying to update the
server (JSS) from 7.1 to 7.31, and I'm having some difficulty. (platform is
Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS 64-bit) Here's what's going on:

Install:
--I stop tomcat6
--delete old webapp (/var/lib/tomcat6/webapp/jamf [and .../jamf.war])
--install new webapp archive
--install new server.xml file (which is different after version 7.1)
--fix keystore path and add the keystorePass password it's using in
server.xml since we're not in OS X Server
--update database schema (7.0->7.2; then 7.2->7.3)
--start tomcat again.

Result:
--war gets expanded and installed
--but when I go to the Web interface, I just get the default
tomcat-is-installed-correctly message Web site.
--during one attempt at this upgrade (using the current server.xml file, I
think), I did get the JSS login page; but when I logged in, the site did not
display properly and I couldn't get anywhere.

The initial install went fairly easily this summer, so I'm stumped here.
I'm sure I'm just overlooking something simple. Any thoughts, anyone?
Thanks in advance,

-Bob
