Leopard and i5 / i7 Macs

Does anyone know if the new core i5/i7 Macs are capable of running Leopard? We've got a few on order and our current Enterprise build is 10.5.8. I'm assuming the recently large 10.6.3 added support and since there hasn't been a 10.5.9 release to accompany it, I feel these machines won't be Leopard compatible.

Thanks,

Hi
I had a lot of issues on the old imac (22,27") non i5/i7 processor with Leopard
kept on crashing , so I guess on the newer ones would be even more painful

As soon as I get a new one inhouse will test it and let you know (they promised this week!!)

cheers

You will have deploy them with 10.6. Apple will not release any version of 10.5 for new hardware.

Typically hardware that Apple releases after a major OS release will only be supported with the new OS. The recent spate of hardware still working on 10.5 has been rare.

10.6.3 and it needs to be based on the OEM disc...

we have some i7 MacBooks and that is our experience so far.

The last iMac that can run 10.5 is the 9,1 model. I have 500 or so
confirmed imaged and running 10.5.8. I think any iMac above that will
have to run 10.6.

Probably not and if so you may be in for some surprises.

I needed to setup a test 10.5 server on a 13" MBP unibody (MacBookPro 5,5) which came with 10.6, and I couldn't install off of retail 10.5 media. However I was able to install 10.5 using an image built on earlier hardware that support 10.5. For my purposes everything worked fine but I certainly wouldn't go to production with an image build on earlier hardware.
